Leitmotif

Photon, photon, quantized light,
How I marvel at your flight.

Empyrean

Photon, photon, quantized light,
How I marvel at your flight.
Surfing æther from afar,
In the twinkle of a star.

Heaven-born and priceless gift,
Cross the vastness, sure and swift.
How on Earth to fathom thee,
Tiny spark of energy?

By diffraction at the grate,
Mind the gaps that implicate
All the wondrous things you are,
Twinkle twinkle little star.

Vital

Captured in the thylakoid:
Raised electrons there deployed;
Pushing up life's transport chain;
Proton gradients shall remain.

Proton gradients help life be,
Raising stores of ATP.
ATP in turn shall drive
Endothermy; life shall thrive.

Life gives out what life takes in;
Oxygen, luciferin
Render, with luciferase,
Bioluminescent haze.

Mundane

S-block atoms in the flame
Shall betray their given name.
Pyrotechnics burst on high,
Spectroscopy in the sky.

Coloured where electrons fall
In some d-block orbital.
Pretty crystals; life exalts
These transition metal salts.

Plasma, casting out the dark,
Gracing discharge tube and arc.
Let the gases ionize,
Then your spectre shall arise.

Light motif

Photon, photon, quantized light,
How I marvel at your flight,
How I marvel at your flight.
